A Guide to Legacy Tracking A Guide to Legacy Tracking Do you get frustrated with Otrack? That’s the appearance of green dotted lines that allow you to start a corner of a rectangle, in line with an end point osnap. Otrack is the modern equivalent of a much more accurate function called tracking, sometimes referred to as ‘Legacy Tracking’.
Here at On-Site-Support (CAD) , this week’s blog offers a guide to Legacy Tracking. For more information, please don’t hesitate to contact by email info@inhousecadtraining.com
Step 1 Take a horizontal line length of 5000 units. You want to start another vertical line of 1200 units along the line. Perhaps you would draw a circle centred on its end point of radius 1200. That will give you an intersection point for your vertical line, just like a compass arc on a drawing board.
However, you will then have to erase the circle.
Step 2 After drawing a 5000 long horizontal line, start the line command. In response to the specify, start to type the letters “TK” and enter. Command line will say “First tracking point”. Note that tracking automatically puts you in a temporary “Ortho” mode, so you can track right, left up or down.
Step 3 Move your cursor to track along the 5000 line. Type 1200 and accept. Then hit return key to cancel tracking. Your vertical line is starting at the correct point.
From my own experience, tracking can save around 25% of drafting time, simply because it avoids having to delete construction objects such as the circle.
